TRAFFIC aides would take to the streets this morning to dramatize their indignation over the Dec. 30 shooting death of Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) operations chief Cris Cabingas, and to call for justice.

Task Force Hapsay Dalan chairman Jose Edgardo  Uy said the traffic aides would be joined by RTA employees.

The RTA demonstration would start at Gaston Park at 8:30 am. They would then proceed to Capistrano St., Divisoria, Don Apolinar Velez St., CM Recto Ave., Cogon,  JR Borja, and back to Gaston Park.

Uy said this would be to show that the RTA and its personnel stongly condemn the killing of Cabingas.

“Bahala nag ma-traffic basta among ipakita ang among pag-condemn sa lino-og nga pagpatay ni Cris in line sa iyang tour of duty,” Uy said.

Uy also expressed dismay over criticisms levelled at the RTA and Cabingas himself over the way traffic laws have been enforced.

“Ngil-ad paminawon nga bisan patay na ang tawo, na-a pa gihapoy mo-ingon nga miresi kay wala sila malipay sa among trabaho,” he said.

In a statement released earlier, Uy called Cabingas as a dedicated team leader of the RTA tasked to keep the roads and sidewalks in the Cogon area orderly and safe for roads users.

“The surreptitious and barbaric shooting of Mr. Cabingas, a criminal act for which the perpetrator must be brought before the bar of justice, has no place in a civilized society like Cagayan de Oro City, and should be strongly condemned not only by the men and women of the RTA but by the entire populace as well,” Uy said.

He said the RTA also strongly condemned what he called as the “unfair insinuation by some radio commentators who have been quick in airing biased commentaries against the RTA and the poor victim, which statements not only add insult to the injuries of Mr. Cabingas but also incite lawlessness in our beloved city.”

Cabingas was shot behind the back in the evening of Dec. 30 at JR Borja St. near corner Guillermo St.. He succumbed to three gunshot wounds in a hospital the following day. (nitz arancon and lito rulona)
