Capt. Joe Patrick Martinez, spokesperson of the 4th Infantry Division said the rebels also burned several equipment owned by Mindanao Rock Corp., a firm that is constructing a portion of the Tikalaan-Dominorog road in Bukidnon.

The incident is the first major rebel offensive action since Feb. 1 after the New People’s Army terminated its unilateral ceasefire. On that same day, NPA rebels killed three Army soldiers whom they caught at a checkpoint in Malaybalay city.

Martinez identified one of the abducted policeman as a PO2 Natividad of the Kalilangan town police station. The name of the other officer is still being verified as of press time.

He said  rebels abducted and subsequently killed  a villager identified as 48-year old Lito Siagan Atoy of Barangay Tikalaan in Talakag town. Atoy was described as a local toughie.

Martinez said after the rebels abducted Atoy and the policemen, they burned a backhoe, a dump truck, a mixer and a power generating set owned by Mindanao Rock Corp..

He said the rebels also stole seven motorcycles that they used to flee towards the direction of Lanao del Sur.
