A TRUCK moving down Macapagal Drive went wayward and plowed through several vehicles and stores after its brakes apparently malfunctioned at Zone 4, Bulua, this city, at around 2 pm Saturday.

At least six people were rushed to the hospital for various injuries. PO3 Melencio Bakiki identified them as habal-habal driver Adreano Sinojon, Roybie Sanchez, May Paclar (pregnant), taxi driver Vernie James, and Joel Rangue. A female taxi passenger was slightly hurt but was not brought to a hospital.

The blue truck, bearing license plates GEG-372, came from Baikingon and was bound to the terminal area in Bulua to deliver limestones and filling materials at a construction site there.

Police said the truck crashed through a taxi, two Suzuki Multicab vans and wrecked six motorcycles before crashing through several establishments, including a bakery, and overturning near the Bulua overpass.

Police identified the truck driver as Benson Tadoy of Upper Dagong, Carmen, this city. He allegedly ran off after the accident.

The truck owner, Nicanor Lacar of Barangay Carmen, theorized that Tadoy lost control of the truck while going downhill near Greenhills Memorial Park.

“Dili gyud malikayan ang ingon niini nga  accident basta na-ay magdagan sa dalan,” said Lacar. (nitz arancon)
