A construction worker, who identified himself as Cocoy Balaquid, told local radio here yesterday that he is with some 54 other people, still trapped at a construction site in Pangarungan Village, Marawi.

Balaquid said those trapped included women and children, mostly brought to the unfinished structure by other construction workers.

He called for help, saying they were already getting hungry. Very little is left of their provisions, he said.

Balaquid said some of the people trapped with him became sickly.

The power supply has been unstable for days, he said.

During the broadcast, Jun Lino Bacus of the City Information Office, advised Balaquid to stay calm, assuring him that help is on the way. He also told him to hoist a white flag so authorities would know they were inside.

From time to time as Balaquid spoke, listeners heard gunbursts.

Meanwhile, National Police Director General Roland de la Rosa said there were six police officers in Marawi who went missing. He said authorities were trying to locate the officers at presstime.
