FORMER Marawi mayor Fahad Salic was brought by authorities to a detention facility in Bicutan, Taguig City after he was charged with rebellion, the head of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) here revealed on Friday.
Chief Insp. Melgar Devaras provided the information after Judge Emmanuel Pasal of the 38th branch of the Regional Trial Court here ordered the CIDG to submit a report about the status of Salic.
Pasal’s order was a result of the petition for a writ of habeas corpus filed by lawyer Dale Bryan Moreno on behalf of Salic’s daughter Fahmia who alleged that her father was being held incommunicado.
The judge also ordered prosecutors and those who arrested Salic, including the Villanueva town police, to submit their reports about Salic.
Devaras informed Pasal that Salic was charged with three counts of rebellion two Fridays ago.
He said Salic was placed under the CIDG custody at Camp Evangelista following his arrest in Villanueva town in Misamis Oriental two weeks ago based on martial law administrator and Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana’s arrest order.
The former Marawi mayor has been accused of involvement in the May 23 siege of the predominantly Muslim City by members of the terrorist Maute Group. Salic has strongly denied this.
Mordeno said the rebellion case against Salic and Devaras’s revelation about the ex-mayor’s whereabouts made the petition for a writ of habeas corpus “moot and academic.”
