Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa has approved over the weekend the request of Iligan City Police Office (ICPO) for additional firearms and ammunition.

ICPO Director Senior Supt. Leony Roy Ga said they already received the high-powered firearms. He did not divulge the types of firears that they received from the PNP headquarters at Camp Crame.

Ga said under the present administration of Mayor Celso Regencia who has purchased and equipped ICPO new firearms and the additional help from Camp Crame will be a big help for city’s fight against terrorists.

He said Regencia personally asked dela Rosa for help during his recent visit to the PNP-Northern Mindanao headquarters in gracing the turnover of command of the regional police command last week.

“Mayor Regencia said his city needs additional firearms because of the threat of the Maute Group,” Ga said.

Aside from asking for more firearms, Regencia also asked newly installed Police Regional Director Chief Supt. Timoteo Pacleb additional police officers for Iligan City.

In his recent visit, dela Rosa said he already approved the request for more police officers and special units in the region to help the police force in guarding and install perimeter defense against any terror attack.

He said the additional troops would be field in conducting mobile checkpoints and monitor the entry of suspected Maute members by passing through the adjacent provinces, municipalities and cities.
