Marawi Sultanate League chairman Sultan Nasser Sampaco in a press conference held over the weekend said as traditional leaders of Marawi City, they are extremely pained to see how terrorism killed hundreds and displaced hundreds of thousands of people and entailed considerable damages to their homes, buildings, infrastructure and other properties including their Mosques and Madrasah schools.

“The good people of Marawi have suffered the most painful mental and physical agonies and humiliation never happened in their history,” he said.

He said the traditional leaders were not spared from the violence, saying, “all of us including our families and relatives are also victims. We had to flee our homes and properties behind, bringing with us practically nothing as the cruel circumstances would only allow. We have also relatives killed, wounded, trapped or displaced.”

Also over the weekend, the The Marawi Sultanate League in cooperation with Jamaitu Marawi Al-Islamiah Foundation (JMIF) leading private higher educational institution in Marawi City and Lanao del Sur has organized the “Save Marawi, Save the Maranaos” project aimed to help in the rehabilitation of Mosques and Madrasah schools damaged in the siege and in extending humanitarian assistance to victims of the siege.
