CITY councilors are supporting the tree planting project in Barangay Pagalungan, here.

The city council, headed by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin Uy, enacted an ordinance authorizing Mayor Oscar Moreno to enter into and sign the Memorandum of Understanding with the Environmental Management Bureau region 10 and Metro Cagayan de Oro Airshed and the Barangay Council of Pagalungan for the implementation of a tree growing project.

In a letter to the city mayor, a copy of which was received by the office of the vice mayor, EMD-10 Regional Director Dr. Sabdullah Abubacar expressed gratitude to the city for being a partner agency for the successful launching of the project.

He said the agreement will fortify the partnership and ensure the continued sustainability of the project.

Based on the agreement, the EMB and MCA shall establish one hectare tree planting area and plant the requested number of forest tree seedlings in the project site; maintain and protect the planted seedlings; install billboards to aid in informing the public of the existence and sustainability of the project and submit quarterly assessment report to City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (Clenro) and the barangay government of Pagalungan for information and reference.

For its part, the city government shall provide the needed forest tree seedlings and technical assistance in the development, and maintenance of the tree growing site, conduct perimeter survey and prepare the map of the project site and conduct periodic supervision and monitoring of the project site, among others.

Meanwhile, the barangay council of Pagalungan shall allow the EMD and Metro Cagayan de Oro Airshed to adopt one hectare of land for tree growing and rehabilitation activities and assist in the maintenance and protection of the tree growing site. (sp)
