The capitol’s second highest official, Vice Gov. Jose Mari Pelaez, was also restrained in his response, saying the provincial board would only look into the controversial shipment if a complaint has been filed.

Gov. Emano said he was still waiting for the result of the investigation of the National Meat Inspection Service that continued to put the shipment on hold while it scrutinizes the shipping and meat inspection documents.

He said it would be early for him to comment on the shipment without the NMIS’ official statement.

Vice Gov. Pelaez said the provincial board would not be able to do anything about the 21 tons of dressed chickens now being kept at a storage facility of Anakciano Inc. in Barangay Mohon, Tagoloan  in Misamis Oriental. The firm is owned by Rep. Unabia.

Pelaez said the provincial board would only step into the picture  if a formal complaint is filed with the province’s legislative body.

“Maybe we can take action if there is a formal  complaint or report,” he said.
