But an agent of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, who uses the false name “Ben Calibre,” denounced the allegations over radio station DxCC, saying narcotics agents here have have no history of stealing from people whose houses they raid. Calibre, who spoke on behalf of the PDEA regional office, uses an alias for security reasons.

He was reacting to allegations made by 61-year old Demetria Saarenas of Zone 3, Barangay Bugo, that PDEA agents carted away her four necklaces, two bracelets, two rings, two earrings, and P73 thousand in cash.

PDEA agents arrested Saarenas’s husband Albert during a buy-and-bust operation in Bugo on Thursday.

Demetria placed her complaint on record at the Cugman police precinct on Friday.

Bugo barangay chairman Munico Capirig said Saarenas’s husband has long been suspected to have links to the drug trade in Bugo although there is no official record of him being involved in any drugelated case in the barangay.

Capirig said he did not witness the PDEA operation but he was merely asked to check out the inventory of the seized  pieces of evidence not in Bugo but in the PDEA regional office on Velez St. in downtown Cagayan de Oro.
