DIGOS City — The remaining stall occupants of the old and dilapidated mezzanine market building here have received final notice to vacate the structure before the end of this month.

In a press briefing, Mayor Joseph Peñas said he personally met with the tenants of the old market informing them to start packing their equipment this Friday since the demolition will start on Dec. 1.

Peñas said the whole building will be sorrounded with a fence beginning Friday which will give occupants ample time to vacate the area and move to their temporary business location while waiting for the completion of the new building.

“I have yet to sign the notice to proceed for the contractor to start building the project which will be set for completion within 10 months to one year. Hopefully, there will be no hitches during the construction so that it will be finished in due time,” Peñas said.

The winning contractor is Rufino Salanatin Construction.

The city government and the contractor has agreed that Salanatin will not receive a single centavo unless and until the new business building will be completed as stipulated in the program of works and turned over to the city government.

“I have examined the track record of the contractor. So far, I never heard negative reports about them. I hope this project will be through before I step down from office,” the mayor said.

The project is part of the P400-million loan the city acquired from the Development Bank of the Philippines.
