The Municipal Government of Villanueva, Misamis Oriental and the Capitol University – English Language & Literature (Ellit) Society hosted the 2017 Villanueva Creative Writing Class at the Municipal Hall of Villanueva, Misamis Oriental.

Resource persons of the introductory creative writing lectures were senior fellows of the Nagkahiusang Magsusulat sa Cagayan de Oro (Nagmac)—Adeva Jane Esparrago on “Writing Poetry and Spoken Word”, EJ Villena on “Writing the Novel”, Abigail C James on “Writing Short Stories and Flash Fiction,” and Alton Melvar Dapanas on “Writing Creative Nonfiction”. Participants were composed of high school students and literature teachers from basic education institutes within the Villanueva. Mayor Jennie Rosalie Uy also graced the event by giving a speech stating her support in putting up a book club, a local library, and a literary folio for the municipality.

The introductory lectures serve as primer to the poetry and fiction/nonfiction prose workshops which will be held on February next year. (nagmac)
