THE Mines and Geoscience Bureau has called for a meeting today to tackle concerns about the alleged massive illegal quarrying and mining operations in Misamis Oriental.
MGB regional director Rex Monsanto called for the meeting after Balingasag Mayor Marietta Abogado sounded alarm bells over what she called as rampant illegal quarrying operations along the Balatukan River, particularly in barangays of Mandangoa and Napaliran.
Conrado Mahinay, local environment and natural resources officer, said the meeting would he held at the MGB regional office at 2 pm today.
Mahinay said the meeting would not only focus on the Balingasag situation but on the entire Misamis Oriental.
He said there were information about illegal mining and quarrying operations taking place elsewhere in the province.
