THE sight of the trisikad driver’s splattered brains was enough to make investigators conclude how violent the attack was.

Police yesterday launched a wide manhunt against two siblings identified as primary suspects in the grisly murder of 37-year old Napoleon Quimada near the West  City Central School on Vamenta Boulevard, Ilaya, Carmen, at around 2:25 am yesterday.

Investigators said Quimada, a resident of Calaanan, Barangay Canitoan, was knifed, chased and then finished off with a bolo allegedly by brothers Jordiano and Dabersilo  or Bevarcilo Binalay, 47 and 45 years old, respectively.

Police said the siblings, residents of Zone 11, Upper Carmen, are believed to have gone into hiding. It was learned that the Binalay brothers are natives of San Francisco, Agusan del Sur.

A guard on duty near the crime scene said Quimada was drunk, and the Binalays were apparently his companions in an earlier drinking binge that turned sour because of an argument.

SPO3  Emmanuel Labial said initial investigation showed that Quimada was cramped and was sleeping in his trisikad beside a sidewalk when he was stabbed to the side of the torso.

Labial said the victim survived the initial knife attack and managed to run across Vamenta Boulevard but the suspects chased him.

When they caught up with him, Labial said, one of the suspects finished Quimada off by swinging a sharp bolo to his head.

Quimada’s body, bathed in blood, was still sprawling on the ground by the first light of day. Those who saw it said it was a dreadful sight.

Police said they have yet to determine the motive for the murder.

A 54-year old witness has come forward, and told the police that he saw how Quimada was attacked and killed.

The witness said the suspects came and attacked Quimada without saying a word.

He said, “Nakamata ug nakadagan pa gamay palayo sa lugar ang biktima pero natumba ra gihapon kadugayan.”

The witness added: “Ako silang gisingitan, ‘Hoy,  ayaw tiwasi’, pero ako na man sab ang ilang gi-atobang og mi-aksiyon ug dasmag.”

The witness said the Binalay brothers rode a trisikad and fled toward the direction of the Carmen coliseum.

It was the witness who rushed to the Carmen police to report the murder.

Lourdes Binalay, the wife of the elder Binalay, said she was worried because her husband is the family’s bread winner. She said they have 10 children.

One of the suspects’ neighbors said the siblings have long been neighborhood thugs, and the elder Binalay is known to hurt his own wife whenever he has had a drink too many.

Police, meanwhile, called on the Binalay brother to surrender or else.
