Teodoro Buenavista, NTC regional director, told local radio that the removal of the wires was unanimously approved  during a recent strategic planning meeting.

“Kung ma-limpyo nato ang Osmeña, naa tay parallel nga buhaton diha sa may Velez Street,” he said.

Buenavista said the clearing operation on Osmeña Street would be made in cooperation with the Roads and Traffic Administration.

“Dili man gyud totally i-close but partial lang. Ang atong task force initially mag-tagging sa mga wires that would be identified as unused,” he said.

Buenavista said the Cagayan Electric and Power Company would also help and lead a group in identifying TV cables, and telephone and other wires.

Buenavista said NTC-10 is set to establish a technical working group that would study the possibility of putting all the cable TV and telephone wires underground. This, he said, would starts with the major thoroughfares of the city.

“Atong buhaton is to enter into agreements with the owners of the facilities,” he said.

The NTC regional director said the project might be dubbed “Project Velez.”
