A FORMER mayor ran for barangay chairman and lost to an ex-councilor in Medina town in Misamis Oriental.

The former Medina mayor, Ken Niño Uyguangco, lost in the race for the chairmanship of north Poblacion in Medina to Nolie Pupos, a former town councilor.

Pupos won with 1,317 votes over Uyguangco’s 1,125 votes, a margin of 192 votes

Pupos served a three consecutive office terms as a Medina councilor. He stepped down in 2016.

Uyguanco, meanwhile, served one office term as a mayor of Medina. He was unseated in 2016 by now Mayor Donato Chan.

Meanwhile in Gingoog City, the eldest son of provincial board member Wayne Militante, Choky, failed to unseat reelectionist barangay chairperson Lilibeth Paguia of Barangay 17.

There were about 26 candidates for barangay chairpersons in Gingoog without opponents, including Liga ng mga Barangay president and Councilor Robert de Lara.

Former Talisayan councilor Jojac Asuncion also won in Barangay Lunao, Gingoog, over Proseso Calope. Asuncion bagged 1,926 votes against Calope’s 1,700.
