DOLE-X Mis. Occ. PFO Chief Leonardo G. Rodrigo emphasized the lawful conduct of SPES which is mandated under Republic Act No. 9547 with the specific aim of helping the poor but deserving students and out-of-school youths to pursue their education by encouraging employment during summer, Christmas vacations or any time of the year for students with a minimum of 20 days work but not more than 52 days.

The DOLE-X PFO staff oriented the beneficiaries on the salient features and guidelines of SPES, giving emphasis to its quality-certified process flow and payment scheme. Labor Market Information (LMI) and Continuing Labor Education Seminar (CLES) were also discussed.

For 2018, the total budget allocation for SPES in the province is P5,342,142 comprising 22 employers.

Under the SPES, students are paid based the prevailing minimum wage, 40 percent of which is shouldered by DOLE that is applicable for the payment of tuition fees and other school expenses, while the 60 percent is paid by the employers/implementers. (DOLE-X Mis. Occ. PFO)
