The “demilitarization” of the assorted weapons were done because these were considered by the military as guns that did not pass its standards.

The firearms, some high-powered, were either confiscated, surrendered, or recovered by soldiers on the field.

The military used a metal cutting machine to destroy the guns before these were set afire in public.

Villanueva said the 79 guns were just part of the 593 firearms confiscate, surrendered, or recovered by 4th ID soldiers since 2017.

He said it took time for Camp Evangelista to destroy the guns because there were procedures to follow, and the demilitarization of the firearms needed the approval of his superiors.
