In an 11 am advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecast typhoon “Jebi” to enter Philippine territory on Sunday night and exit on Monday morning.

Pagasa said “Jebi” “poses no direct threat  in any part of the country.”

As of 11 am, the weather bureau said it sees no significant enhancement of the southwest monsoon because of the weather system that is tracking toward Japan.

Weather experts forecast “Jebi” to strengthen this weekend before bringing impacts to Japan next week.

Senior meteorologists at Accuweather said while “the tropical threat is expected to remain mostly over the open ocean through early next week, it will lash the largely unpopulated far Northern Mariana Islands and Iwo To with rain and wind from its outer bands.”

As of Thursday evening, Jebi packed wind speeds of 194 kilometers an hour, the equivalent of a Category 4 hurricane in the Atlantic and Eastern Pacific basins, Accuweather reported.

Pagasa, meanwhile, said it spotted “Jebi” 2,500 kilometers east of northern Luzon outside of the Philippine area with maximum winds of 180 kilometers per hour, gustiness of up to 220 kph and moving west at 20 kph, early morning yesterday.

Meanwhile, the trough of the low pressure area spotted off Guiuan, Eastern Samar brought rains in Cagayan de Oro and elsewhere in Mindanao and Visayas late this week as the southwest monsoon continues to affect northern Luzon.

In  a 4 am advisory, the low pressure area was observed at 415 kilometers east of Guiuan town, resulting in cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Mindanao and Visayas.

Even Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon had partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms. (with reports from pna)
