Gingoog City — Barangay Chairman Porferio Duque, Jr. of the hinterland Eureka village, this city, is facing criminal charges as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources field office here filed an illegal logging case against him before the City Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday.

Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer Conrado Mahinay, Jr. based in the city said the charges filed against Duque are alleged illegal logging in violation of Section 77 of Presidential Decree No.75.

Assistant Cenro Robinson Abrahan, for his part, said Duque approached their team during the raid they conducted on Oct. 5 in Sitio Muya, Barangay Eureka and claimed he owned the lauan lumber.

Duque also claimed that he owned the chainsaw, sawing, and slicing the lauan logs which was caught in the act by the raiding team said Abrahan.

Mahinay said the DENR also filed charges against Duque in violation of Section 7 paragraph 4 of Republic Act 9175 known as Chain Saw Act Law of the Philippines.

The DENR raiding team confiscated a volume of 475 board feet of lauan lumber said Abrahan.

While still in the area are about 100 of logs found during the raid he added..

The raiding team also found the volumes of branches of trees had been burned at the said area.

Abrahan said facing the same charges with Duque are Ernesto Lacre and Reynante Lacre, both also residents of the same barangay.
