COUNCILORS Teodulfo Lao Jr. and Reuben Daba yesterday rejected a proposal by the police to prohibit men to ride motorcycles in tandem in the city.

Lao frowned over the proposal brought to the public’s attention by Cagayan de Oro City Police Office spokesman Supt. Mardy Hortillosa. He said the proposal would be a violation of a right.

Lao pointed out that a motorcycle was designed for two people, and it would not be possible for the city council to approve an ordinance like that.

“Ang himuon noon sa atong kapulisan nga ilang ibalik ang pagbutang ug checkpoint sa kada presinto aron gyod masiguro nga walay maghimo ug krimen sakay sa motorsiklo,” Lao said.

According to Hortillosa, Cocpo was planning on proposing that the city council approve an ordinance that would prohibit two men from riding a motorcycle together in the city. He revealed this in the wake of the two broad daylight gun attacks here last week.

Councilor Daba said the proposal, if approved, would make people angry at the city council.

“Broad kaayo ni kay naa may national law ani that allows the motorcycle driver ug iyang kaangakas sa pag butang og helmet,” Daba said.

Instead, Daba said, local officials, the Land Transportation Office and the police  should come up with a “win-win solution.”
