NORTHERN Mindanao police director Chief Supt. Timoteo Pacleb has ordered security measures stepped up throughout Region 10 to prevent New People’s Army rebels from carrying out attacks as part of their celebration of the Communist Party of the Philippines 50th anniversary on Wednesday.

All provincial and city police offices in the region were given orders to make sure that the NPA would not be given a room to stage raids.

“Undertake target hardenings  measures, and secure vital installations, Beep up security of all PNP stations and camps,” Pacleb said.

He also ordered the police to closely coordinate their efforts with their military counterparts who are undertaking counter-insurgency operations.

“Harmonize operations and interoperability. Strengthen intelligence, monitor and conduct proactive security patrols,” he ordered.

Camp Alagar spokesman Supt. Surki Sereñas said Pacleb did not allow members of the police mobile forces in the region to take a holiday break.

In another development, city hall employees enjoyed a long weekend which will continue today until Wednesday.

But Mayor Oscar Moreno said he has issued an order to deploy a “skeletal force” to man important departments of city hall.

Th order applies to health personnel, members of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Department, guards at city hall, and other departments that need to function even during the holidays.

He said there will also be no work at city hall on Dec. 31, and Jan. 1 and Jan. 2, 2019. (Nitz Arancon)
