Our pets are just like us they need proper care and maintenance to keep us healthy. So we decided to consult a veterinarian on how to maintain our pets overall health.

Dr. Jan Jerich Go

According to Pets 2Go Veterinary clinic’s resident veterinarian Dr. Jan Jerich Go it’s important to keep our furry buddies at a healthy weight by feeding them a balanced and nutritious diet.

Dogs in particular needs to exercise, and the best thing about it is, not only that it benefits them, it also benefits us as we get a workout of our own, an hour stroll around the park would do wonders for both the owner and the dog itself – When it comes to physical activity and your pet, the first thing to note is that even the simplest activities like walks go a long way.

Another tip is to always have a weekly “routine care” for your dogs. One of the most important things owners can do for their pets is to be the intuitive and caring by feeding them healthy food, enabling exercise, scheduling regular visits to the vet, providing ample grooming (Hygiene), and administering essential health supplements according to Dr. Go.

He said that it’s ideal to bring your pets in for an annual check-up even when there is nothing wrong with them, just to make sure they are healthy and to help detect problems earlier. Hygiene also plays key role in keeping our pets in top shape, especially when they are still 3 to 6 months old as they are more prone to diseases and other harmful bacteria’s.

Make supplements a part of your daily routine, set up vet visits and schedule regular times with the groomer (even if that’s you). You’ll feel just as good as your pet does if you do.

Dr. Go (pointing to his clinic’s products) said Keep your pets free of parasites such as fleas, ticks, heartworm, etc. there are products in your local veterinary stores that could help with the above to handle this cases, however, he advised that you should consult the veterinarian and ask for the right product for your pet as some products may be to strong or to weak for your pets depending on the severity.

One other important thing that pet owners should never forget he said is to vaccinate your pets against potentially deadly diseases such as distemper, parvo, panleukopenia and rabies.

Here’s the vaccination schedule for your puppy’s first year: From 6 to 8 weeks Distemper, measles, parainfluenza; 10 to 12 weeks DHPP (vaccines for distemper, adenovirus [hepatitis]; parainfluenza, and parvovirus); 12 to 24 weeks Rabies; 14 to 16 weeks DHPP; 12 to 16 months Rabies, DHPP; Every 1 to 2 years DHPP; Every 1 to 3 years Rabies.

And Lastly, as their owners, your pets are often looking to you for cues to deepen a bonding moment, whether that be cuddling time on the couch or breaking from your human tasks for a positive affirmation every once in a while (patting). As with people, the little actions go a long way with maintaining a positive relationship with your pet.
