The fatality was identified as Lando Aseguia, a native of Lourdez, Alubijid but is presently residing at Barangay Lourdez, Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental.

Prior to the incident, the victim was in the house of his relative for a visit.

Regine Salisi, Aseguia’s cousin said Aseguia was in their house and spent several hours and even ate his dinner before deciding to go home.

Gi-ingnan man siya sa akong bana nga didto nalang sa matulog kay gaulan-ulan unya lisud itabok sa suba,” Salisi said.

She said Aseguia insisted on leaving bringing with him eight kilos of pods for his pigs.

Salisi said Aseguia might have been carried away by a strong current of the river.

Aseguia, it was learned, did not know how to swim.

Salisi said Aseguia was found by members of the city’s rescue team under the water already dead and still holding a flashlight.
