Iligan City — Neither Mayor Celso Regencia nor any of the candidates under his ticket did not show up in the candidates forum Wednesday afternoon.

The forum called “Voters Education, a candidates forum” at MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology under Chancellor Sukarno Tanggol at the 3rd floor College of Engineering spearheaded by the College of Social Sciences.

Two other groups of local candidates, the Solid Blue team and the Green Team. The former was represented by businessman Marianito Alemania and Rep. Frederick Siao who is running for mayor and for another term for congressman.

The other team, the “green’’ team was represented by lawyer Dino Quijano and Betzy Zalsos, CPA-lawyer who are running for mayor and vice mayor, respectively.

Another mayoral candidate, Manuel Battung, was not also around and it was not clear whether he was invited or not.

Regencia’s reason, in a letter to the organizer, was that he was suffering from “sprained limbs” even as he said that the others in his team could not show up because “they had previous commitments which were just as important.”

The blue team, was presented as members of the Nacionalista Party while the “green” team was from the One Iligan Party.

Dismayed residents then called radio stations saying the failure of the mayor’s group to show up was a means of “damage control” for the incumbents.
