Egay Uy .

I HAD the privilege of meeting another Oscar last week.

I was invited to a get-together and thanksgiving fellowship of the Business Permit and Licensing Division personnel of the city government which was held at the now sparkling Kagay-an Lawndale Spring Resort along the south diversion road in Taguanao, Indahag.

I saw that thanksgiving was proper because the relentless implementation of city ordinances by the BPLD significantly contributed to the increased collection by the city government of business-related taxes and fees compared to that of last year.  The increase was noted to be at 69 million as of deadline set.

As some may already know, I was appointed by Mayor Oscar S. Moreno to chair the Joint Inspection Team of the city government.  Among other matters, the JIT inspects businesses in general to determine their compliance with applicable regulations.  The JIT is a composite team with members from other regulatory offices of the city government.  It is headed by Ms. Vivian Sabugaa, chief of the BPL Division.

In his inspirational message, City Administrator Teddy Sabuga-a confirmed that the often unheralded tasks of the BPLD and the JIT, including those of the Regulatory and Complaint Board, have resulted in the increased number of registered businesses in the city.

It was my first time to set foot in the Resort and I was awed by the way the place was operated under the leadership of Mr. Oscar “Boy” Cinco.  Like his classmate The Oscar, Boy Oscar is a soft-spoken person who prefers to perform rather than talk.

The fellowship was held on a Saturday and yet I found Boy Oscar, a hands-on boss, in the resort.  He sat by an outdoor table keeping watch of his area of responsibility which can compare with other high-end and known resorts outside of the city.  Yes that is how improved the former Lawndale Spring has become.

This summer, expect the resort to overflow with people who want to beat the summer heat.

(Egay Uy is a lawyer. He chairs the City’s Regulatory and Complaint Board, co-chairs with the city mayor the City Price Coordinating Council, and chairs the city’s Joint Inspection Team.  He retired as a vice president of Cepalco.)
