Egay Uy .

EVERY qualified voter must go out and cast his or her vote on Monday to ensure that the elected officials will truly be representing all sectors of society.  Everyone must go out of his or her comfort zone and participate in the democratic process of electing officials who can truly represent the sentiments and aspirations of a majority or plurality of the constituency.

I have no data on which sectors of society came up with the most number of voters in the past elections, but impressions have it that as the societal rung gets higher, the lesser is the voter turnout.  Maybe it’s worth checking this out.

Talk has it also that those who sold their votes are the ones who usually go to the voting places early on judgment day, and crowd the voting places in order to discourage those who lack patience to wait for their turn to cast their votes amidst long queues.  In the process, this could result to disenfranchise a more logical segment of the voting population.

Talk has it that a day or two before judgment day, special operations of candidates or groups of candidates will be on their fullest swing. Kinamangay matud such that some others would believe that the outcome of elections is actually decided during this period.  This therefore makes handshaking, rallies and speeches and posters mere icings on the cake and rigorous slimming exercises for candidates and their supporters.

The concept of elections is for the people to choose who will represent them in the seat of government, local or national.  Obviously, not everybody can sit in the coveted office so somebody has to represent the people. Whether or not those who get elected really represent the greater number is another story.

So today, let me urge the public to be judicious in choosing whom to install in the various elective vacancies. If you believe that Team OKKA must continue to lead the way of the journey of Cagayan de Oro City to a better and brighter tomorrow, by all means, vote for Mayor Oscar S. Moreno, Vice Mayor Kikang Uy and the rest of the team.

If you believe that their political opponents have better credentials to address your aspirations for the city, then exercise your right to vote in their favor.  Just remember, the future of Cagayan de Oro City will be charted on Monday and we have a significant and important role to play.

Remember, our votes will determine our kind of government starting at noontime of June 30, 2019.

Vote wisely!
