It has been observed, he said, that councilors, specially members of the opposition “do not bother” to attend the said activity.

They only come during sessions, he added.

To recall, members of the opposition councilors do not attend the weekly flag raisings. It is only  the mayor, vice mayor, the department heads with some of their employees and the councilors who are majority  members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod who come for said ceremony.

Pardillo said his resolution would include some ‘penalties’ for the absences.

To note, this has been going on even in earlier administrations, when Celso Regencia was not yet the mayor.

Then city councilor Marlene Young who was then an opposition councilor in earlier times said that they do not attend flag raisings because they felt “they were not welcome” there.

In a related development, Vice Mayor Jemar Vera Cruz said that each councilor, be he a majority member or in the opposition would this time, handle some committee.

To note, come backing opposition councilor Queenie Belmonte did not handle any committee in the previous 16th council.

She said she was not given any, even as the majority councilors said she refused some committees given to her.
