Talisayan, Misamis Oriental — Town mayor Rommel Maslog has vowed to strengthen the operation of the maritime police to go against reported massive illegal fishing in the area within the Gingoog Bay.

Maslog is the chairman of the Gingoog Bay Alliance, which composed of the towns of Balingoan,Talisayan, Medina, Magsaysag, and the city of Gingoog.

He said its is part of the function of the alliance to protect the marine resources within Gingoog Bay against any illegal activity.

“But the problem our maritime police lack of floating facility specially partrol boat to use  against illegal fishing. Our obligation to support them (maritime police),”  said Maslog.

Barangay Kagawad Rolando Pagara of Brgy Sta. Cruz Magsaysay confirmed that there have been illegal fishing in Magsaysay waters.

Most illegal fishing operators come from Caraga Region said Staff Sgt. Dante Sarate of Balingoan Maritime Police.

Newly-installed Maritine Police  Chief Lt. Marconi Satur who made a courtesy call at the mayor’s office in Talisayan expressed thanked.

Satur said he is very thankful for this development as the leadership of GBA is very supportive for the Maritine Police operation.
