IT looked quite odd to me — imagine, newsmen appearing to have run out of stories about Albay Rep. Joey Salceda, so that they felt compelled to write about the lawmaker’s alleged claims that the congressmen who recently slugged it out for the speakership of the House of Representatives for the incoming Congress would all turn out to be good men, based on their zodiac or astrological signs.

According to a report by CNN Philippines which came out at twitter.com last July 10, 2019 at 9:25 in the morning, Salceda recognized that the speakership bets had one and the same zodiac or astrological sign — Scorpio, in that Taguig Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano’s birthdate is Oct. 28; Marinduque Rep. Lord Alan Velasco, Nov. 9, and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez, Nov. 14.

Relying on their zodiac signs, Salceda claimed that Cayetano, Velasco, and Romualdez, would turn out to be good men. This could have been quite a fascinating and fantastic tale, but there is just one problem: did Salceda know that God has a stern prohibition, in His Bible, about consulting or using zodiac or astrological signs to foretell the future of anyone? Did Salceda know that God sends His curses against those who do so?

As far as I can gather, I am certain that Albay Rep. Joey Salceda fully understands that the Bible contains strict prohibitions against using zodiac signs or astrological signs to see what the future may bring to anyone. Salceda, to my knowledge, is a Christian believer, so it is but fair to expect that he has gone through some Biblical verses pertaining to these prohibitions against the use of zodiac or astrological signs.

On the other hand, if he is not a Christian, well. I can understand his disclosures, in public yet, of the zodiac signs of House Speakers Alan Peter Cayetano and Lord Alan Velasco, and House Majority Floor Leader Martin Romualdez, and foretelling what they would become in the days to come. Indeed, if he is not a Christian, I can understand why he would not know what the Christian Bible contains on zodiac or astrological signs.

Whatever, here is one part of the Bible which contains a dire warning against those who resort to zodiac signs or astrological signs: “… Let no one be found among you who… practices divination…  Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord…” (Deuteronomy 18:10, 12, the Bible).

People who believe in zodiac or astrological signs, like Albay Rep. Joey Salceda, may say it is just a matter of fanfare for them to be indulging or believing in the signs, and they may further argue that they are not really discarding their believe in God by their belief in these signs, which belief the whole world tolerates anyway. And they maybe right, for all I know. But, unfortunately, these arguments run counter to God’s commands.

And what is truly scary here is this: people who practice divination by using zodiac signs actually disobey God’s commands. As the Bible says in its Deuteronomy 28:15-68, God’s curses are to come upon those who disobey even if they are very much aware of have knowledge of His commands, subjecting the violators to destruction and death.

Jesus, our God and Savior who is God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, said the same thing in Matthew 7:26-27 of the Bible. He said that people who listen to Him but do not obey His Word are fools, who are deemed to have built their houses on the sand near the sea shore. When the rains, the floods, and the strong winds, came, their houses fell with a great crash, beyond recovery. I pray this reaches Albay Rep. Joey Salceda!
