The suspect, 72, who is residing at Barangay Macabalan, Cagayan de Oro City, denied the allegations.

He was arrested at his house last Sunday morning.

Instead, he pointed to the elder brother of his 26-year-old wife as the one who sexually abused the victim.

He said he then confronted his wife after knowing the incident but the latter just told him to just ignore it.

Personnel from the Department of Social Worker and Development-10 brought the child to the hospital for medical examination.

The examination yielded positive result that the victim was raped.

The suspect, who still maintains his innocence, said due to the embarrassment he has experience, he is thinking of killing himself as he could not bear the tauntings from his friends and neighbors.

SPO3 Terencio Vertudazo of the Macabalan Police staion said, they arrested the suspect after receiving a report from a concerned neighbor of the victim.

It was learned that the victim narrated the incident to his playmates which was also overheard by an elderly neighbor.

The same neighbor then reported the matter to the authorities.

Police are currently investigating allegations that the suspect molested another eight-year-old girl.

Police are also considering the allegations of the suspect about the alleged involvement of his sister’s elder brother.

The suspect is now temporarily detained at Macabalan mini-cell awaiting formal filing of charges.
