ILIGAN City–A prominent lawyer here has claimed that there is a plot to assassinate him, another lawyer and a judge handling the case filed against city hall officials.

Lawyer Vermin Quimco said he learned this from a witness who is privy to an alleged agreement between two prominent people in the city and a man to kill him, lawyer Leo Zaragoza, and Judge Arthur Abundiente in exchange for a fee of P1.4 million.

Quimco claimed a P70-thousand downpayment was already made.

Quimco is among the petitioners for a declaratory relief, injunction, preliminary injunction, temporary restraining order, and damages and mandamus against Vice Mayor Ruderic Marzo, Providencio Abragan Jr., Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) director Emilio Rana, and managers of Land Bank and Development Bank of the Philippines.

Zaragoza is serving as a lawyer in the case while Abundiente is serving as the judge handling it. He earlier granted the TRO, and subsequently, a preliminary injunction, a move that allowed Mayor Celso Regencia to assume as mayor again following his suspension and despite his detention at the city jail in connection with the ambush of Rep. Vicente Belmonte Jr..

Quimco said he would name suspects once the witness agrees to sign an affidavit.

He also said that while they were not panicking, “we are cautious” now.
