IF plans don’t miscarry, the chief of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (Isafp) would take over as commander of the Army’s 4th Infantry Division next week, Camp Evangelista’s spokesman disclosed yesterday.

Maj. Gen. Ronald Villanueva, Isafp chief, would replace 4th ID commander Maj. Gen. Benjamin Madrigal on Wednesday, according to Capt. Joe Patrick Martinez.

Martinez said Madrigal, who served as 4th ID’s commander for 17 months, would assume as head of the military’s Southern Luzon Command.

Capt. Martinez said Madrigal’s new assignment is seen as a promotion.

“He (Madrigal) really has to go up,” said Martinez.

Villanueva and Madrigal both belong to the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1985.

But Martinez said there could still be changes between now and Wednesday. “Tentative pa yan, pero kung wala nang changes from now  on, si Gen. Villanueva na ang  pumalit kay Gen. Madrigal dito,” said Martinez.
