THE Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas (KBP) has blacklisted a radio “block-timer” over his personal on-air attacks against another broadcaster.

In an undated decision, the KBP chapter in Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental restrained block-timer Renato “Dodo” Canoy from going on air even as it revoked his KBP accreditation.

Block-timers are people who host radio programs using airtime either bought by him or by a sponsor. They are not employees of radio stations.

Two resolutions were signed by local KBP chapter chairman Rey Maraunay, vice chairman Jao Gumapac, standard authority officer Tito Monterde, secretary Don Ocampo, and past standard authority officer Frank Mendez as a witness.

The decision means that member radio stations of the KBP are not supposed to allow Canoy to go on air anymore.

Maraunay said the KBP conducted an investigation in Oct. 23, and the group found that Canoy violated  Sections 1, 2 and 3of Article 4 of the KBP Broadcast Code in his commentary against broadcaster Ronnie Waniwan of radio station Mellow Touch FM.

Incidentally, Waniwan is a candidate for councilor of the Padayon Pilipino while Canoy is closely associated with gubernatorial candidate and Villanueva Mayor Julio Uy and his congresswoman-wife Juliette.

Canoy, a block-timer at radio station 103.9 Energy FM, called the KBP decision “biased,” claiming that he was not given a chance to answer Waniwan’s complaint.

He said the KBP chapter should use the same standards applied on him on Waniwan.

Canoy said, “Siya ra lugar makama-o pag-pangataki, ug kon siya ang atakihon, masuko siya, unya moreklamo sa KBP?”
