Mayoral candidates from three major political groups in the city launched their campaigns on Monday night, promising Cagayanons more infrastructure projects, better health and sanitation services, and more land acquisitions.

The Liberal Party (LP) and the Centrist Democratic Party (CDP) started their campaigns with a bang, proclaiming their respective candidates before crowds of thousands. Another group, the Padayon Pilipino, also launched its campaign with two relatively smaller political rallies.

Reelectionist Mayor Oscar Moreno told a crowd in Divisoria that he would continue building classrooms, provide more relocation sites and give beneficiaries land ownership titles,  and improve health  services, including the Philhealth coverage, among others.

Rodriguez, for his part, told his supporters at the Acsat gym in Carmen that he would rebuild the historic Community Amphi-theater in Divisoria that was demolished and replaced with a “running board” during the Jaraula administration. He said he would also close down the city dump in Carmen and open a new one at Sitio Pamalihi in Barangay Pagatpat.

Emano told his supporters in Agusan and Kauswagan that he would bring back the “Night Cafe” in Divisoria, strengthen city hall’s land banking program, boost resettlement efforts, and luew more investors into the city in order to create more jobs.

Chief Insp. Joepet Paglinawan, Carmen police chief, said the Rodriguez rally was attended by some five thousand to eight thousand people.

In Divisoria, some eight thousand watched the proclamation rally of Moreno group, according to Senior Insp. Rexill Torayno.

Senior Supt. Faro Antonio Olaguera, city police director, said the figures were merely police estimates, and may not be accurate.

The Padayon Pilipino had a crowd of some 400 in Zone 6, Barangay Agusan, said Councilor Leon Gan.

“Kanang kapin sa 400 ka mga tawo, apil na niana ang mga bata, kay dili man  mailkayan na-a man gyoy mga bata nga mo-uban sa ilang mga gikikanan,” said Gan.
