ILIGAN City––Suspended and detained Mayor Celso Regencia is planning to assume as mayor again on Monday.

During the city council’s session on Tuesday,  acting vice mayor Providencio Abragan Jr. read a portion of Regencia’s letter in which the latter made known his intention to reassume his post.

Regencia was suspended for six months for abuse of authority slapped on him by the Office of the President because he stripped Vice Mayor Ruderic Marzo of his power to appoint casual employees in the city council.

Abragan said the situation would be “awkward” but since he is law-abiding, he would follow whatever is required by the law, and would have no problems serving as a councilor.

He said Regencia’s supporters have also been “activated,” and that Councilor Sammy Huertas would be appointed as officer in charge because Regencia would remain in detention as a result of a case filed against him in connection with the ambush of Rep. Vicente Belmonte last year.

The city council referred the matter to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
