Villar also inaugurated the 45-linear meter six-lane Igpit Bridge in Opol town in Misamis Oriental.

The two completed projects are expected to smoothen the traffic flow and significantly cut travel time from Barangay Gusa, this city, up to Igpit, Opol, Misamis Oriental.

Villar formally opened the Gusa-Agora coastal road section and was joined by Mayor Oscar Moreno, Misamis Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano, Rep. Rolando Uy of the city’s 1st District, Vice Mayor Joaquin Raineir Uy, and other local officials.

Vinah Maghinay, spokesperson of the Department of Public Works and Highways in Region 10, said coastal road section is expected to ease the traffic congestion in the city proper, particularly on CM Recto Avenue.

Lawyer Jose Edgardo Uy, chairman of city hall’s Task Force Hapsay Dalan, said the Roads and Traffic Administration was observing and studying the traffic flow after the coastal road opening, and fine-tunings would need to be done.

There was a vehicular traffic build-up at the “Galaxy” area in Gusa, near the coastal road, and there were reports of a similar situation at the Agora section.

Meanwhile, Maghinay said the new bridge in Igpit would increase the existing road capacity to mitigate traffic congestion on the road leading to the Laguindingan airport in Misamis Oriental, vice versa.
