Edgar Amoronio, president of Coop-Natcco, said over 30 thousand people signed documents and registered their opposition to the proposed  scrapping of a provision that exempts cooperatives from taxation.

Amoronio said his group was strongly opposing the “fiscal bill” filed by Sen. Loren Legarda. The proposal, he said, would amend Sections 60 and 61 of Republic Act  9520 which the Department of Finance wants.

“Kon tangtangon ang Sections 60 ug 61 sa RA 9520, nagpasabot nga ang mga cooperative magbayad nag buhis. Ang among  gusto nga magpabilin nga tax exempted ang mga cooperative kay ang mga coop, dili man kini sama sa mga corporation,” Amoronio said.

He said the signature campaign would continue until they gather 15 million  signatures against the amendment of the Cooperative Code.

The documents were presented to Sen. Teofisto Guingona III, and former senators Juan Miguel Zubiri and Richard Gordon, Mayor Oscar Moreno, and other cooperative officials in Mindanao during a gathering at Gaston Park yesterday. The officials also signed the document.
