SINCE mid-April 2016, I have been reading Duterte news. Not that I wanted to read them, but it’s all I ever could see on paper, on television and of course, on social media. I came to a point I got fed up picking up the paper the next day, because I know it will be all about him again.

When Duterte won in the presidential race, I thought things will go back to normal. No, it never went back to the way it was. More news came and again, it’s all about the man of the hour, even man of the millisecond, if there’s even such a thing. Now that he stopped doing press conferences, I still see news about him; news that are always linked to him.

I ask myself: Why are people doing this? Aren’t they fed up with him? Do they want him impeached even before he assumes position? If that’s even possible.

What irks me now are happenings all over the country that are again being attributed to him. I mean what about PNoy? Isn’t he still the President? Well, that’s what I know. And that’s what the Omnibus Election Code Article II Section 13 of the Commission on Elections says.

“The President-elect and the Vice-President-elect shall assume office at twelve o’clock noon on the thirtieth day of June next following the election and shall end at noon of the same date, six years thereafter when the term of his successor shall begin.”

Isn’t Aquino III answerable to all these news being published? Where is he? Why is it always about the man who hasn’t even assumed position until twelve noon of June 30, 2016?

Are we really what others call as a Duterte country? Well, probably. It pretty much looks like everything is about him: the misconduct of the youth, the random killings (that are by the way always aired now, unlike before), and the actions of the government officials. We do have our own minds, don’t we? And the actions we take are the actions we decided to make for ourselves?

So why is everyone blaming this man? Because everything seemed to stir up because of him? Or because media made it appear to be like that?

Change starts with us? Yeah. With all the news I’m reading, I figured we’re never going to change. Because we just love blaming people. We don’t even want to admit our own mishaps. We enjoy the fact that we have someone to blame. I thought that’s just a personal trait in our own personal lives. But no, looks like we’re bringing that to national level. We are choosing to look away from our own mistakes.

We could probably blame Duterte too for a broken friendship last election, or a broken heart for whatever reason.

Yeah, we can choose to do that. After all, it’s all about him.
