“THE number one factor for the speedy implementation of metropolization plans of Cagayan de Oro is terrain considerations, which does not only include the topographical terrain but also the demographic and business terrain.”
This was the statement expressed by Councilor Romeo V. Calizo in relation to the City Council resolution urging the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Region 10 to spearhead the initiative for the establishment of Metropolitan Cagayan de Oro.
“Ato studyuhan kung asa gayud ang places of convergence in terms of demography and business interest,” said Calizo.
“Ang Cagayan de Oro, is the gateway not only to Luzon and Visayas but also the gateway to the Land of Promise, so it’s not impossible nga kining mga short and medium term plans nato would lead to metropolizing Cagayan de Oro,” he added.
According to the councilor, the move of the City Council is laudable considering that NEDA is a national government agency and a little add-on from the National Development Plans in due time giving focus on
its implementation will undoubtedly fast track the implementation of this endeavor.
“The potentials of the city, which include the natural resources and education here in Northern Mindanao will only be put on the side again if we let this opportunity pass over us by not doing our initiative,” the councilor cited. (SP)
