In a statement, the NDF said that while the New People’s Army (NPA) would cease and desist from carrying out offensives against the military, police, a nd militia groups, it would be on defensive mode as it would maintain a “high degree of militancy and vigilance against hostile actions or movements” of government forces.

The NDF said the ceasefire would also mean that soldiers, police officers “who have no serious liabilities other than their membership in their armed units shall not be subjected to arrest or punitive actions” during the period. The Front said they would be allowed to visit relatives and friends.

The NDF said the ceasefire would also enable its members to prepare for 47th CPP anniversary.

Capt. Joe Patrick Martinez, 4th Infantry Division spokesperson, said the government has yet to issue a ceasefire declaration but added he was glad that the NDF would temporarily stop NPA “atrocities.”

“All the trouble we are seeing are because of them,” said Martinez.

Martinez however said he doubted the NDF’s sincerity, saying many soldiers were killed in the past despite the Front’s ceasefire declaration.
