Solons okayed the partnerships to bridge education gap in Cagayan de Oro City.
City legislators headed by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy enacted an ordinance authorizing Mayor Oscar Moreno to enter into and sign the Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Education-Division office (DepEd) and the Teach for the Philippines for the implementation of a program that will improve the quality of public education in the city.
The Teach for Philippines project, which covers the period 2017 to 2018, aims to enhance the social well-being of the people by bridging the education gap and advocating functional literacy and progressive teacher and administrator training, as well as provide ongoing professional development to young individuals committed to closing the achievement gap by serving fellows who will teach students in the underesourced public elementary school, cited Mayor Oscar Moreno in endorsing the resolution to the City Council.
The TFP initiative is designed to recruit, select, train and provide ongoing professional development to young individuals committed to closing the achievement gap by serving as fellows who will teach students in underesourced public elementary schools, The Power learned.
The agreement provides that the DepEd, in collaboration with TFP, shall select and designate the public elementary schools in the city where the participants recruited and selected by TFP will be placed as fellows, among others.
For its part, the city, in collaboration with DepEd and TFP, shall select and designate the public elementary schools partner schools and consider all fellows presented, recruited, and selected by TFP for placement in the designated partner schools subject, among others.
The city shall allocate a budget for the portion of the cost of program in the amount of P2.1 million which covers the full period of the agreement.
The legislation was endorsed by the committees on education and on laws and rules chaired by Councilors Suzette Magtajas-Daba and Ian Mark Nacaya, respectively. (sp)
