ILIGAN City–A former security aide of erstwhile congressman Vicente Belmonte Jr. is struggling for life after he was attacked by gunmen here on Monday morning.

PO3 Mark Ian Quiete identified the victim as Romeo Vequizo, 52, of Purok Bander, Acmac, Sta. Felomina.

Police said Vequizo was attacked at around 9:30 am Monday in Acmac by still unidentified men.

He sustained five gunshot wounds all over, and was rushed to a hospital.

His son Romeo Jr. yesterday said his father was transferred from Dr. Uy Hospital to the Don Gregorio Lluch Hospital a neck surgery was scheduled in order to remove a bullet.

He said his father received no death threats, and that he was working for  a private security agency.

The elder Vequizo was among those summoned to court in connection with the shooting of former broadcaster Jose Pantoja on Oct. 7, 2007.  Pantoja is now city hall’s information officer.
