ILIGAN City–Marawi Mayor Majul Gandamra interceded on behalf of his constituents who were locked out of their houses in Bayanihan Village here on Monday.

Gandamra confronted city information officer Jose Pantoja and said local officials who wanted to drive displaced Maranaos away were “walang malasakit sa kapwa.”

Pantoja responded calmly, saying the displaced Maranaos who were occupying houses built for storm “Sendong” survivors, would be summoned to city hall.

Gandamra arrived at the village mid-morning to plead with officials not to padlock the houses. Mayor Celso Regencia was not around.

City hall employees padlocked 18 “unoccupied” houses. Other residents refused to give in.

Pantoja said the padlocking was discussed and scheduled during a conference among stakeholders a week ago.
