VICE Mayor Raineir Joaquin Uy assumed as acting mayor of the city yesterday.
He was named as acting mayor by Mayor Oscar Moreno who left for Siem Reap, Cambodia yesterday for a two-day conference aimed at exploring the Philippine government-National Democratic Front’s peace process.
The conference starts today until tomorrow but Moreno is scheduled to return on Wednesday.
The conference organizer, the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, participants would explore key areas of interest including: the significant role of leadership in the peace process; the Comprehensive Agreement on Socio-Economic Reform (Caser); the role of religious leaders in resolving conflicts and upholding ceasefire mechanisms; generating strategic support in the legislative body; and comparative experiences and perspectives from international peace processes.
Moreno said he was invited to take part in the conference following a clearance from the government and NDF peace panels.
“Dili ko naka pakyason kay basin makatabang kita sa pagkab-ot sa kahusay ug kalinaw basi sa atong experience isip congressman, governor and mayor sa paghatud sa atong serbisyo sa katawhan,” Moreno said. (nitz arancon)
