MAYOR Oscar Moreno yesterday honored former mayors and congressmen, giving them credit for what the city has become today.
Among those acknowledged by Moreno as he delivered his annual report on the state of the city in time for its 67th Charter Day celebration were the late former mayors Max Suniel, Justiniano Borja, former Misamis congressmen Pedro Baculio and Emmanuel Pelaez who would subsequently become vice president.
Moreno also honored former mayors Reuben Canoy and Aquilino Pimentel Jr..
Speaking before a crowd at Divisoria, Moreno said the former mayors and congressmen contributed to making Cagayan de Oro a progressive city today despite their political differences and affiliations during their time.
“They may have been adversaries in political battles but they were above all heroes of Cagayan, whose vision was to bring Cagayan de Oro to greater heights,” Moreno said.
Moreno also spoke about his eight-point “Primehat” agenda, saying it was meant to provide needed services not only to Cagayan de Oro but also people from other places in the region.
“Primehat” stands for poverty alleviation and peace and order; revenue and resettlement; infrastructure and investment; metropolization; education and environment; health and hospital services; agricultural productivity; and tourism, traffic and team work.
“The idea of these agenda is so that we will bring Cagayan de Oro to greater heights,” said Moreno.
He said city hall is “looking at the bigger picture”–that “Cagayan de Oro is the converging point, trading center, education center, medical center, the center of the region.”
He said, “Mao nga our service to the city is not just confined to those in the city but apil sab ang sa gawas.”
Moreno cited the gains of the city hall-owned JR Borja Memorial General Hospital, saying it has started serving people coming from outside Cagayan de Oro. The hospital, he said, generated P118 million in revenues in 2016 alone because of its health program. (nitz arancon)
