THE city council is continuously looking for ways to improve the city’s capabilities in disaster reduction and management.

In its regular session this week, councilors passed an ordinance that will give City Mayor Oscar Moreno authority to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Science and Technology (Dost-10) in the project Deployment of Early Warning System (Dews) in the flood-prone areas of the city.

Under the agreement, Dost-10 will install and monitor the equipment which includes two units of Automated Rain Gauge and one unit of Water Level Monitoring System.

It was learned that Dost-Pagasa office located in the second district of the city requested to install hydromet stations in Bitan-ag Creek.

Councilor Zaldy Ocon, chairman of the committee on environment and natural resources authored the ordinance.

Also under the agreement, the city government is tasked to provide labor augmentation in the installation of the equipment, as well as the monitoring station, security fence around the installations, and a pole mast to secure the equipment. (clo)
