MURDERED teenager Stacey Villar’s father made sure that his daughter would have a bright future by placing the ownership of several of his landholdings under her name.

But self-confessed strangler Gregorio Rosabal Santos Jr., the estranged lover of Villar’s mother who surrendered to Mayor Oscar Moreno on Saturday morning, made sure the teenager would no longer have any future, literally.

The Gold Star Daily learned that Anselmo “Jun” Quisumbing Villar Jr., Stacey’s father, owned several real properties in the city. Before he died on May 26, 2009, he placed his landholdings under Stacey’s name.

Villar, based on a Nov. 14, 2014 entry on Geni.com, was a “husband” to three women with the surnames “Mah,” “dela Cruz,” and “Manalato.” Based on the entry, he had five children, including one daughter (Stacey) with Merideth “Madet” Mah.

Geni.com is an online application to search genealogies.

He was a son of Anselmo Sr., and Eloisa Quisumbing from a prominent clan in Sumilao, Bukidnon, who sent their son to Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) from grade school until he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business management in 1968.

Before Anselmo Jr. died, he left the titles of his landholdings, including a posh house and lot in Barangay Baloy, this city, to a close friend for safekeeping, a source disclosed to the Gold Star Daily.

After he died, Mah, Stacey’s mother, took the titles from Anselmo’s friend.

Early this year, Mah placed an ad with this paper in an attempt to rent out the 1,500-sqm Baloy property for P45 thousand or sell it.

The property was where Stacey grew up in but her father’s death made her and her mother move out and settle for a pad at Morning Mist subdivision.

“Of course, everything changed when the father died. Their finances and lifestyle changed,” one of Mah’s friends told the Gold Star Daily.

Another source close to Mah said Stacey’s mother was “disposing” the properties left by her late common law husband.

Before Mah’s estranged lover owned up to Stacey’s killing, police said, they were looking into the Villar landholdings.

“The properties have come to our attention. We have been informed about that,” said Supt. Lemuel Gonda, chief for operations and planning of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo).

Police are preparing to press charges against Santos today, two days after he surrendered to Mayor Oscar Moreno.

Moreno said he fetched Santos at around 9:30 am here after he was informed that the suspect wanted to surrender to him.

Moreno said, “I know the family because they are prominent in Gingoog, Talisayan… I did not volunteer. I was asked, and I said, ‘Yes, why not?’”

He said there was no condition for the surrender, and there were no guarantees given.
Moreno said he did not ask Santos about what really happened, and merely turned him over to the police.

“I am leaving the investigation to the police, and it’s now in the court’s hands,” said Moreno.

Behind bars on Saturday, Santos told reporters he was responsible for the death of Stacey.

“Ako lang nahinaykan,” said Santos without giving details. But he said he and Stacey’s mother have been quarreling over “financial” matters for over two weeks.

The night before the murder, Santos and Mah allegedly chanced on each other in an establishment for Bingo games in downtown Cagayan de Oro where they supposedly ignored each other, police sources said. They said a furious Santos subsequently went to Morning Mist subdivision after midnight with Mah as the “target.”

Supt. Gonda, meanwhile, said Santos waited for Mah, and subsequently entered the pad and attacked the sleeping teenager.

Santos, according to Gonda, claimed that he was so enraged that he killed the defenseless teenager.

“Ingon ang suspect nga midulom kuno ang iyang panan-aw, ma-o to nga iyang nahinaykan ang bata,” said Gonda.

He said the killing took place between 12:54 am and 1:37 am on Thursday. Stacey’s mother arrived home at around 2 am, and discovered her daughter’s death hours later.

Santos, a resident of Alco Homes in Sta. Cruz, Carmen here, fled to Butuan city following the Thursday killing. He decided to surrender on the prodding of his relatives.

His nephew Michael Salvador said he and other relatives brought Santos back to the city on Friday night after convincing him to surrender to Moreno. (with reports from herbie gomez)
