Chief Insp. Alvies Altiche, chief of the Bulua police station, identified the victim as Vilma Cabactolan, a member of the faculty of the governmentun Canitoan National High School.

Altiche said the suspect, a 9th grader, fled after he attacked the 45-year old public school teacher with an custom-made knife in front of the entire class at around 8:30 am. He remains at large at presstime. (The suspect’s name has been withheld because he is a minor.)

Altiche said Cabactolan succumbed to stab wounds all over. She died at the Madonna hospital in Carmen at around 11:30 am.

Police said the student brutally attacked Cabactolan after being scolded by the teacher because he brought a cellphone in the classroom.

“Gidid-an man gud ni  Cabactolan ang iyang mga estudyante nga magdala og cellphone sulod  sa ilang klasi pero kining suspect nagdala man gihapon sa   iyang cellphone. Mao tong gikasab-an sa iyang  teacher,” Altiche said.

He said the student lost his cool, stood up from his seat and attacked the unsuspecting Cabactolan at the back.

Altiche said investigators found out that it was not the first time for Cabactolan to scold the suspect who was described as “badlongon.”

He said the teacher scolded the suspect in class last week because he did not work on a class project.
