Chief Insp. Jeopet Paglinawan, Carmen police chief, identified the fatality as Rebecca Lumbay, 46, of Sitio Kolambog, Barangay Lapasan. She succumbed to a lone gunshot wound at the right side of the body.

Police identified her wounded companion as Roger Nabong, 37, of Barangay Sta. Cruz, Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.

Incidentally, Nabong, who was hit in the leg, is the same man who was identified as one of the nine armed men who carried out last week’s robbery near an unmanned police outpost on the busy CM Recto Avenue. Robbers fled with some P400 thousand.

Nabong strongly denied he had a hand in the daring broad daylight robbery.

Police freed Nabong because the victim said she was unsure that he was among the robbers, said Senior Insp. Ariel Phillip Pontillas.

“Seventy percent lang daw ang certainty sa victim,” Pontillas said.

Nabong was driving a red KIA Sportage with license plates KFZ-361 when he and Lumbay were attacked while they were on their way to the city proper from Lumbia.

Paglinawan said the gunshots prompted Nabong to swerve and slam the vehicle against the concrete fence of the memorial park.

Nabong has declined to comment on the attack.

Investigators from the Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco) said seven cartridges from a caliber .45 pistol, a motorcycle helmet, and sunglasses were found at the crime scene.
